Communism vs socialism ?

Socialism, as defined by Marx, is the transitional stage between capitalism and communism. In its final stage, communism is supposed to be stateless. In its historical implementation it has never reached this phase. Those who took power during the transition decided to remain in power as dictators and oppressive regimes. There has never been an actual Marxist communist country in history.
