Shrooming for the first time?

I'm taking shrooms this weekend with a very close friend of mine. What is the trip like? By that, I don't mean what's going to happen, it's different for everyone. I mean, how does the high start? When you smoke weed, the high is almost instantaneous. When you do acid, the high gradually starts until you reach your peak. So, which one is it more like? Say you went into the bathroom after about an hour of ingestion, and when you came out, you felt like something was "off". Would it be like that? Any other experience and tips from your trips are welcomed.
